The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga, together with the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office of San Miguel, Surigao del Sur through the initiative of the Local Council for the Protection of Children successfully carried out an “Orientation on Online Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation on Children” (OSAEC) on February 17, 2022 at Sagbayan National High School, San Miguel, Surigao del Sur.

The said activity was participated by teachers and students coming from the three (3) districts of San Miguel, Surigao del Sur.

In hopes of totally putting an end to online child sexual abuse and exploitation, Resource Person, Ms. Bernafe Bantayan, DSWD, Social Worker Officer I, imparted knowledge to different partner stakeholders and child beneficiaries on how to properly handle and prevent cases of child abuse and exploitation.

The orientation’s main objective was to share more knowledge to educators as well as students with regards to issues about online child abuse and come up with effective response mechanisms.

DSWD, together with its partner-stakeholders and different child-protection groups, ensures that all efforts are made in order to provide awareness and prevent sexual abuse and exploitation among children.

This activity was made possible through Presidential Proclamation No. 731 series of 1996 that declares the second week of February of every year as the National Awareness Week for the Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation or also known as the Child Sexual Abuse Awareness Week (CSAAW).#
