As the 2025 National Women’s Month celebration came to a close, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga, in its role as Chair of the Regional Inter-Agency Committee Against Trafficking – Violence Against Women and Their Children (RIACAT-VAWC) Caraga, brought the inspiring WOMENtum campaign to a meaningful milestone. On April 4, 2025, the Committee hosted the #WEJuanaKnow Orientation—a day devoted to empowering and nurturing the very individuals who serve on the frontlines of the fight against gender-based violence (GBV).
A total of 45 committed focal and alternate focal persons from various RIACAT-VAWC member agencies gathered for the activity to become more effective, compassionate, and resilient advocates for survivors.
Recognizing that effective service begins with a healthy self, the orientation strongly emphasized mental, physical, and emotional well-being—highlighting that self-care is not a luxury but a necessity in advocacy work.
The orientation featured a deep dive into Battered Woman Syndrome, exploring its psychological impacts and the complexities surrounding the condition. Participants learned practical stress management strategies and engaged in reflective discussions on protecting their mental health while maintaining the energy and compassion needed in their roles. A session on spirituality and inner resilience, delivered by one of the resource persons, offered a refreshing perspective on grounding oneself through purpose and ethical service.
Furthermore, the Department of Health (DOH) provided on-site health services, including random cholesterol, uric acid, and blood sugar testing, with blood pressure monitoring. These checkups are a timely reminder that caring for one’s physical health is equally essential in sustaining long-term advocacy work.
The event concluded with the One Billion Rising movement as participants came together in a powerful call to action: “Babae, Bangon!” — a symbolic gesture of collective healing, empowerment, and hope.
The #WEJuanaKnow Orientation stands as a testament to RIACAT-VAWC Caraga’s unwavering commitment to cultivating a well-equipped, emotionally resilient, and deeply compassionate community of GBV advocates—ready to rise, ready to serve, and ready to lead lasting change.
