The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), through its Pag-Abot Program, continues to extend its services to families, individuals, and children in street situations across the Caraga Region.

A flagship initiative of DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian, the Pag-Abot Program aims to protect street-involved individuals from the risks and dangers associated with life on the streets. It also seeks to empower them by connecting them with appropriate social services.

In May and June 2025, the Pag-Abot Team, in collaboration with various City Social Welfare and Development Offices (CSWDOs), conducted a series of reach-out operations in five areas across the region: Bayugan City on May 15; Surigao City on May 16–17; Bislig City on May 27–28; Cabadbaran City on June 4; and Tandag City on June 4–5.

The operations included profiling and initial assessments to better understand the needs of those encountered and to introduce the program’s services. The initiative aims to prevent vulnerable individuals, especially children, from becoming involved in illegal or harmful activities, while paving the way toward safer and more dignified living conditions.

The Pag-Abot Program is part of DSWD’s broader commitment to inclusive social protection, ensuring that no one is left behind, especially those living in vulnerable street situations.
