The bountiful tilapia harvest was met with the joyful smiles of partner beneficiaries.

Here comes another rewarding harvest!

Another fruitful harvest marks the continued success of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga’s Project LAWA at BINHI, as partner beneficiaries in Barangay Ritaglenda reaped 120 kilograms of tilapia from their community fishpond.

Most of the harvest was sold at affordable prices within the barangay, providing accessible and nutritious food for local residents. Around 20 kilograms of smaller tilapia were processed into dried fish, maximizing the value of the yield.

The tilapia farming initiative, which began last year, is managed and maintained by the Ritaglenda Farmers and Fisherfolk Association (RIFFA). In preparation for the next cycle, the group has recently drained the pond to accommodate a new batch of fingerlings from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) in Basilisa.

Partner beneficiaries are draining the pond to harvest the tilapia.

This milestone highlights the ongoing impact of Project LAWA at BINHI (Local Adaptation to Water Access and Breaking Insufficiency through Nutritious Harvest for the Impoverished), a flagship program of DSWD Field Office Caraga that promotes food and water security among vulnerable communities.

DSWD Field Office Caraga celebrates with its dedicated partners as they continue to transform hard work into sustainable success through community-led livelihood initiatives.
