The Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office Caraga, through the Recovery and Reintegration Program for Trafficked Persons (RRPTP), conducted an orientation on child- and women-related protection laws to Social Workers from City Social Welfare Development Department (CWDD) Butuan City, and DSWD Field Office Caraga, today, July 23. 

Supporting the DSWD initiatives of ensuring the proper implementation of laws on the protection of children and women, DSWD Caraga held the said orientation to ensure that social workers are legally empowered and guided and capable of applying child- and women-related protection laws in case handling, referral systems, and policy implementation. It also sought to enhance their capacity to deliver rights-based and trauma-informed interventions, ensuring that services not only address the immediate needs of clients but also uphold their dignity and long-term well-being. 

The activity encompassed discussions on Republic Act No. 11930, which addresses the Punishment of Online Sexual Abuse or Exploitation of Children (OSAEC), as well as Republic Act No. 11862, which aims to Strengthen Policies on Anti-Trafficking in Persons, establish Penalties for Violations, and allocate Funds for this purpose, thereby amending Republic Act No. 9208, also known as the “Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003.” Additionally, discussions also include Republic Act No. 9262, which pertains to the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children (2004), along with deliberations on the Child Sexual Protection Code (CSPC).
