The Home for Girls (HFG) recently conducted its fifth annual Expressive Arts Workshop, with this year’s theme focusing on “Color and Expression.”Resource Persons Mr. Len Russel Regalla and Mr. Walter Andit Jr. facilitated the session, introducing the participants to the psychological and emotional impact of colors. The workshop included a discussion on the color wheel, where the girls learned about primary, secondary, and tertiary colors.
A key activity of the workshop was the group painting session, where participants collaboratively created artworks that reflected their shared emotions and personal stories. Each group presented their paintings and explained the meaning behind the images and color choices.
One of the residents, Mel, shared her appreciation for the opportunity. “Pasalamat ko kay diri sa center maka painting na mi, kay sa amoa dili mi ka afford sa materials. Ang krayola among hilison para maka paint lang. Sa karon nga activity, sa among painting, ang tree nag signify sa Home for Girls, ang handprint symbolizes the unity and creativity of the residents,” she said.
Many of the children under the care of HFG have experienced traumatic events in their lives. Through expressive arts, the center aims to provide a therapeutic and creative outlet for the residents—helping them process their emotions, regain confidence, and find healthy ways to express themselves.
The activity is part of HFG’s ongoing commitment to holistic care, promoting self-expression, teamwork, and emotional development among its residents.
