The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga, through the Association of DSWD Social Workers Inc. (ADSWI) Caraga, spearheaded the conduct of KUMUSTAHAY: Promoting the Social Work Profession cum Filipino Social Worker’s Day Celebration on July 9.The initiative was held in line with the annual observance of Filipino Social Workers’ Day every June 19, which honors the vital contributions of Filipino social workers to nation-building. It also aligns with the national goals outlined in the Philippine Development Plan 2023–2028 and AmBisyon Natin 2040, which promote inclusive development, poverty reduction, and the overall well-being of Filipinos—principles that reflect the core values of the social work profession.
KUMUSTAHAY served as a meaningful platform to reaffirm the professional identity and mission of DSWD Caraga’s social workers, acknowledge their critical role in the implementation of social protection programs, and inspire both current and future practitioners through recognition, advocacy, and shared learning. The event highlighted the DSWD’s steadfast commitment to fostering an empowered, just, and inclusive society.
In her keynote address, Ms. Mylah Gatchalian, RSW, President of ADSWI Philippines, emphasized the evolving and multi-faceted role of social workers in today’s complex social landscape.
“Social workers must make use of the multi-lens approaches we have as our knowledge foundation—approaching the situations of our clients through multi-lenses,” Gatchalian stated. “We are called not just to help, but to be advocates, innovators, and truth-tellers.”
The celebration featured key presentations and interactive sessions, including the ADSWI Caraga Work Plan and Accomplishments (2021–2025), the ADSWI Strategic Plan (2025–2027), updates from ADSWI National, and a workshop titled “RSW Ako: WSWD Concept Updates.”
Through KUMUSTAHAY, DSWD Field Office Caraga renews its commitment to elevating the social work profession, recognizing that Bawat Buhay Mahalaga Sa DSWD.
