The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga spearheaded a tree planting activity earlier today, July 11, 2025, in Barangay Rojales, Carmen, Agusan del Norte, in line with the observance of National Disaster Resilience Month (NDRM).
The event was held in collaboration with key partners, including the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Caraga, the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Carmen, members of the Regional Disaster Response Committee (RDRC), and the Butuan 1st Company, 721st Naval Squad Reserve.
A total of 295 Tugas and Aguho trees were planted in the designated area. These native tree species are known for their resilience and ability to withstand strong winds, making them an ideal choice for enhancing the area’s natural defenses against disasters.
In her message of appreciation, DSWD Caraga Regional Director Mari-Flor Dollaga underscored the value of collective action in building disaster-resilient communities.
“Seeing all of you here reminds me why this work matters and why it’s always worth it. Your commitment reminds me that resilience doesn’t only come in times of crisis—it’s built in moments like this, when we care enough to take action before the storm even comes. Maraming, maraming salamat po sa inyo. Magpadayon ta sa paglambo ug pagserbisyo sa atong komunidad, padulong sa Bagong Pilipinas nga maginhawaon, lig-on, ug nagtinabangay,” she said.

Meanwhile, a ceremonial signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was held between DSWD and its key partners, including Hon. Mayor Ramon Calo of LGU Carmen, DENR Caraga, and the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) of Carmen, formalizing their shared commitment to environmental sustainability and disaster preparedness.
This activity reflects DSWD Caraga’s continued efforts to strengthen community resilience through inter-agency cooperation and proactive environmental action.
