The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga commemorated the founding anniversary of the Pag-asa Youth Association of the Philippines (PYAP) on July 29, 2025, at Lime and Zest, Watergate Hotel, Butuan City.The one-day activity gathered 36 participants composed of regional, city, and municipal PYAP Federation Officers, DSWD staff, and two guest resource persons. This year’s celebration carried the theme, “Thriving not just surviving: Holistic support for the socio-emotional well-being, igniting hope and shaping the future of the new era of PYAP-AKO.”
In her message, DSWD Caraga Regional Director Mari-Flor Dollaga reaffirmed the Department’s commitment to supporting the development of Filipino youth, especially the out-of-school and disadvantaged sector. “The PYAP remains a vital platform where young people can find their voice, express their right to participate, and grow into productive, self-reliant citizens. We continue to work with our partners to ensure that youth are not only surviving—but truly thriving,” she said.
The activity opened with the presentation of the 2nd Quarter Accomplishment Report of the PYAP, followed by a session on environmental awareness and youth engagement in sustainable development, facilitated by Ms. Sennahcherib Selah R. Malayao of the Environmental Management Bureau Caraga.
Furthermore, Ms. Krysta Ryedel P. Antoni-De Jose of the Regional Committee for the Welfare of Children (RCWC) discussed the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), highlighting its relevance to youth participation and advocacy.
The event concluded with the finalization of the PYAP-AKO Caraga Strategic Plan for 2025–2027, which outlines the federation’s direction in promoting child rights, environmental sustainability, and community involvement.
The PYAP, organized through the DSWD’s Unlad Kabataan Program, continues to serve as a platform for out-of-school and disadvantaged youth to access development opportunities and contribute to nation-building efforts at the community level.
