To ensure the effective implementation of the Strategic Helpdesk for Information, Education, Livelihood, and Other Developmental Interventions (SHIELD) Against Child Labor Program, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) – Caraga, through its Sectoral Unit under the Protective Services Division, conducted a series of spot-check monitoring visits in selected Local Government Units (LGUs).
The visits took place in Tandag City and San Miguel, Surigao del Sur, on May 16, 2025; in Barobo, Surigao del Sur, on June 5, 2025; and in Dinagat, Province of Dinagat Islands, on July 31, 2025.
These assessments aimed to evaluate LGU compliance with SHIELD program guidelines, identify implementation challenges, and provide actionable recommendations to improve program delivery. Representatives from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) joined the monitoring team to offer technical support and policy suggestions.
The collaborative effort highlights the government’s sustained commitment to strengthening local interventions and advocacy in the fight against child labor, ensuring that children are protected and given access to opportunities that promote their holistic development.
