The Regional Inter-Agency Committee on Senior Citizens (RIAC-SC) chaired by the Department of Social Welfare and Development Office Field Office Caraga conducted its 1st Quarter Meeting at the Conference Hall, DSWD Field Office Caraga, March 21.
The meeting served as a collaborative platform for member agencies to review accomplishments and strengthen efforts in promoting the rights and welfare of senior citizens in the region. Atty. Florence June Bantugan of the National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) Caraga delivered key updates on the Commission’s recent initiatives and engagements.
Highlighting the agenda were the presentations of agency accomplishments for Calendar Year (C.Y.) 2024, which showcased various programs and services implemented in support of the elderly sector. The meeting also tackled the Strategic Plan for Older Persons for C.Y. 2025–2028, aligning regional efforts with national goals and laying down a roadmap for sustainable and inclusive interventions for senior citizens.
A significant point of discussion was the transition of chairpersonship of the RIAC-SC from the DSWD to the NCSC, as part of the evolving mandate and strengthened role of the Commission in leading senior citizen affairs at the regional level.
These initiatives are anchored in the overarching framework of the Philippine Plan of Action for Senior Citizens (PPASC) 2023–2028, which envisions an inclusive, empowering, and age-friendly society that fully upholds the dignity, rights, and well-being of older persons across the country.
