Nearly 700 participants of the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga successfully enhanced their business skills through the Sulong Dunong activity conducted across the region. The Sulong Dunong initiative is designed to strengthen micro-enterprise operations by equipping participants with the right tools, knowledge, and connections to improve financial management, expand market opportunities, and ensure business sustainability.
The series of activities began in Agusan del Sur on June 25-27, 2025, followed by the Province of Dinagat Islands on July 28-30, 2025. It continued in Surigao del Sur on August 5-7, 2025, and in Surigao del Norte for the Island municipalities on August 6-8,2025 and the mainland areas on August 18-20, 2025.
Across provinces, participants were immersed in learning sessions on Bookkeeping, Business Sustainability and Growth, Market Conference, and Business Expense Savings Training-all tailored to help SLP associations effectively manage and scale their existing enterprises.
According to SLP Regional Program Coordinator Reynard Roi Cabusao, the Sulong Dunong training is not only about learning technical skills but also about preparing participants to run their businesses with confidence. “This activity equips our SLP associations to handle the challenges of business operations, especially as additional funding opportunities await those who meet the criteria for incentives. With the right knowledge and skills, they can sustain and even expand their livelihoods,” he said.
Additionally, some provinces organized bazaars showcasing a wide range of SLP products- from local delicacies to handmade accessories – providing participants with an avenue to promote their enterprises and connect with potential buyers.
By investing in capacity-building activities like Sulong Dunong, DSWD Caraga continues to empower local associations to not only sustain but also expand their businesses-contributing to long-term economic resilience for families and communities in the region.
