The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga, through the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) staff of Butuan City, in partnership with the faith-based Civil Society Organization (CSO) The Jesus Family Ministry, successfully conducted a Youth Development Session on September 17, 2025 at the Butuan City School of Arts and Trades (BCSAT).

With the theme “Take Care of Your Mind,” the session focused on mental health awareness, spiritual growth, and personal development. Christian leader Jocel Desamparado served as the resource speaker, emphasizing the influence of modern practices and worldly distractions on young people, while offering guidance on how they can safeguard their mental and emotional well-being.

Students actively participated in the discussion and shared their personal experiences. Some pointed out that excessive cellphone use has negatively affected their interactions with family and peers, creating distance in relationships. They also suggested practical solutions such as limiting screen time. One student shared: “Akong pamaagi te para ma-lessen ang mga negative influences is akong i-limit, like 30 mins. use of cellphone at home og prayer pod sa mga lisod nga experiences sa akong life.”
Another added: “Akong pinakauna dali maduolan is akong parents.”

This activity marks the first engagement of the CSO partner in catering to in-school youth. The activity was warmly received by the participants, who described the session as meaningful, fruitful, and time well-spent. Its success was made possible through the support of DSWD staff, the BCSAT school administration led by Principal Gewaresel Carlos, and 4Ps coordinator Mr. Relly Badayos.

Launched in 2008 and formally institutionalized in 2019 through Republic Act No. 11310 or the 4Ps Act, serves as the country’s primary poverty alleviation strategy and human capital investment initiative. It grants conditional cash assistance to qualified poor households for up to seven (7) years, aiming to enhance their health, nutrition, and education.
