The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in partnership with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga conducted a fire safety briefing and comprehensive drill at the Regional Rehabilitation Center for Youth (RRCY), Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur, September 11, 2025.
The activity featured an orientation on fire prevention and suppression techniques, followed by a simulation exercise. Participants first responded to an earthquake scenario by practicing the “drop, cover, and hold on” procedure. A fire drill was also carried out, where staff, visitors, and residents implemented evacuation protocols and learned proper fire suppression methods, including the use of fire extinguishers.
Beyond ensuring safety inside the center, the exercise adds value to the youth undergoing rehabilitation. The skills they acquire not only enhance their preparedness during emergencies but also equip them with practical knowledge they can bring back once reintegrated into their communities.
The RRCY serves as a nurturing facility for children in conflict with the law, providing them with structured guidance, rehabilitation programs, and opportunities to become responsible and resilient members of society. Activities like disaster preparedness drills complement this mission by promoting discipline, safety awareness, and readiness for real-life situations.
