A total of Php29 million worth of livelihood assistance was officially turned over to 37 Sustainable Livelihood Program Associations (SLPAs) and 544 individuals under the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga during the Provincial Check Turnover Ceremony held today, October 16, 2025, at the Datu Lipus Makapandong Cultural Center in Barangay Patin-ay, Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur.
The activity was graced by Assistant Regional Director for Operations (ARDO) Jean Paul Parajes, Governor Santiago Cane Jr., Vice Governor Patricia Anne Plaza, 2nd District Representative Adolph Edward Plaza, members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer (PSWDO) Rashel Montemor, and Local Government Units (LGUs) of Agusan del Sur.
Also present were partner agencies and organizations including Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA)- Agusan del Sur, Agusan del Sur State College of Agriculture and Technology (ASSCAT), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), First Consolidated Bank (FCB)-Prosperidad, Provincial Public Information Office (PPIO), Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), Provincial Health Office (PHO), Philippine Information Agency (PIA), and PTV news, some of whom received plaques of commendation for their continued support to the SLP’s implementation in the province.
In his opening message, ARDO Parajes reminded the SLPAs that the growth of their respective enterprises lies in their hands.
“The success of the project is in your hands. Through discipline, integrity, and cooperation, we can achieve our common goal. The government has provided you with capital, and it is your responsibility to make it productive and create real change. But rest assured, DSWD together with its partners will guide you in sustaining your enterprise based on the 5-Phase Sustainability Plan,” said Parajes.
Vice Governor Plaza also highlighted the significance of the turnover activity as a way to empower program participants.
“This initiative is for the future of our beneficiaries. We hope this will empower and inspire you to maximize the assistance you receive and foster resilience in your communities so your associations can truly thrive,” she shared.
In his message of support, Governor Cane challenged the SLPAs to prove that their businesses can grow and become sustainable.
“This livelihood program is designed to sustain the gains of your associations and expand to a wider horizon so everyone can prosper. I look forward to seeing different kinds of thriving businesses. Prove to us that your association can truly flourish,” the governor said.
Meanwhile, Congressman Plaza reminded the SLPAs not to waste the opportunity given to them by the government. He also pledged incentives for successful SLPAs to encourage them to strive harder for growth.
“This is a golden opportunity. I hope you take this to heart and value this blessing that has come to your association. Do not waste it. As a way of supporting you, I will provide rewards for the most successful associations: ₱150,000 for the 1st place, ₱100,000 for 2nd place, and ₱75,000 for 3rd place after one year,” said Plaza.
Aside from the turnover ceremony, various products from the SLPAs ranging from local delicacies to handicrafts were also showcased during the event. The product display generated a total sales of ₱23,940.00 reflecting the growing market potential of the beneficiaries’ enterprises.
The turnover of livelihood assistance is part of the DSWD’s continuous effort to empower poor, vulnerable, and marginalized households through sustainable livelihood opportunities. With the support of local government units and partner agencies, the program aims to strengthen economic resilience and promote self-sufficiency among communities in Caraga Region.
