The Regional Inter-Agency Committee on Anti-Trafficking and Violence Against Women and Their Children (RIACAT-VAWC), chaired by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga kicked off the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW) 2025 at the Philippine Science High School – Caraga Region Campus on November 25, 2025.
In his message, Engr. Ramil A. Sanchez, PhiSci High School Campus Director, emphasized the school’s significant role in shaping young advocates who stand for equity, dignity, and respect.
Moreover, DSWD Field Office Caraga Protective Services Division (PSD) Chief presented the Rationale of the Campaign, highlighting strengthened inter-agency collaboration and proactive community awareness as essential strategies to combat violence.
A Message of Support from Atty. Aurora Luanne R. Cembrano-Ramos, Regional Director of the Commission on Human Rights Caraga, underscored the CHR’s continued commitment to upholding the rights of women and addressing gender-based discrimination.
The Keynote Address was delivered by Judge Julie C. Sansaet, Presiding Judge of RTC Branch, and tackled the legal safeguards available for victims of violence, the importance of reporting mechanisms, and the judiciary’s role in ensuring justice and accountability.
Furthermore, everyone joined the Pledge of Commitment, led by Chief Aranas, reaffirming dedication to fostering a violence-free community and protecting the welfare of women and girls.
To inform the public of upcoming advocacy efforts, Zandro Rhyme D. Bañez of DSWD presented the Official Calendar of Activities for the 18-Day Campaign.
The program concluded with the 1 Billion Rising Dance, led by members of the Philippine National Police, symbolizing unity, empowerment, and collective action against all forms of violence toward women.
This year’s kick-off ceremony highlighted the strong regional solidarity among government agencies, educational institutions, and advocates, made evident by the participation of more than 300 individuals.
Through continued partnership, awareness-building, and empowerment efforts, RIACAT-VAWC strengthens its commitment to creating a society where women and girls are safe, valued, and empowered.
