Partner-beneficiaries at work on their Project BINHI.
A total of 500 partner-beneficiaries are currently engaged in Cash-for-Work activities under Project LAWA at BINHI across various barangays in the Municipality of Madrid, Surigao del Sur. Participants are simultaneously working on the establishment and maintenance of communal vegetable gardens and the implementation of water supply diversification projects.
Project LAWA at BINHI (Local Adaptation to Water Access and Breaking Insufficiency through Nutritious Harvest for the Impoverished) is one of the flagship programs of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga. The project aims to reduce food and water insecurity in disaster-prone communities by empowering families through sustainable, community-led solutions.
The project is implemented in three stages:
Stage 1: A 3-day capacity-building training for all partner-beneficiaries
Stage 2: A 15-day Cash-for-Work implementation, such as the ongoing activities in Madrid
Stage 3: A 2-day sustainability training to equip participants with the knowledge and skills to maintain and expand their projects.
For their 20-day engagement, partner-beneficiaries will receive compensation equivalent to the Caraga regional minimum daily wage. Beyond this short-term support, the long-term benefit lies in the sustainable food and water sources that they will manage and use for their families’ daily needs.
