The Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program (TBTP) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga expanded its free eye check-up initiative in partnership with S & J Makinano Optical Clinic during its second phase, held in General Luna and Dapa, Surigao del Norte, on November 23, 2025.
Six children underwent thorough eye examinations to determine their immediate vision needs. The results of these screenings will serve as a basis for recommending appropriate support, such as the provision of eyewear or referral to specialists, to address any medical issues that may affect their learning.
In addition to the examinations, S & J Makinano Optical Clinic shared essential knowledge about proper eye care and practical ways to prevent common eye health problems. They also provided guidance to the parents of TBTP learners on how to avoid serious eye injuries, ensuring that proper care continues at home.
As part of the TBTP implementation, DSWD Caraga continues to coordinate with its partners and service providers to expand health services that support children’s development during literacy sessions.
Through initiatives like this, the agency remains committed to ensuring that every child participating in the program receives adequate support to improve both their learning and overall health.
