For sixteen long years, Emelyn Diaz Palang-at has walked hand in hand with the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), a journey that began in 2009 and forever changed the course of her family’s life. Together with her husband, Jonard P. Palang-at, a hardworking coconut tapper, Emelyn has tirelessly strived to provide for their family through a modest sari-sari store. Blessed with nine children, the Palang-at family once faced overwhelming struggles, often unsure how they would put food on the table or send their children to school.
Before becoming beneficiaries of 4Ps, life was especially difficult. The family lived in a mountainous area, far from basic services and opportunities. With limited income and no external support, meeting the daily needs of their growing children—particularly their education—felt like an impossible task. Each day was a test of endurance, faith, and love. Yet, hope arrived when the Palang-at family became part of the 4Ps program, marking a turning point that would slowly but surely uplift their lives.
Beyond the financial assistance, the program offered something equally valuable: knowledge and guidance. Through regular participation in the Family Development Sessions (FDS), Emelyn learned important lessons on responsible parenting, proper health care, financial planning, and livelihood development. She fondly shares that these lessons became their family’s compass, guiding them toward better decisions and a more hopeful future. By applying what they learned, they began to manage their resources wisely, prioritize their children’s education, and steadily improve their living conditions.
Years of perseverance, combined with the support of the program, bore fruit. One of their children has proudly graduated and now works as a teacher, giving back not only to the family but also to the community. The rest of their children continue to pursue higher education and complete their basic schooling; dreams that once seemed far beyond reach.
Today, Emelyn speaks with pride and gratitude as she shares that their family can now stand on its own. With a small business that provides a steady source of income and a child who helps support the household, the Palang-at family has achieved a sense of stability they once only dreamed of. Their hearts are filled with deep appreciation for the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program, its dedicated staff, and the life lessons they imparted, lessons that empowered them to rise above hardship and embrace a future of self-reliance and hope.
