The Northeast Sustainable Livelihood Program Association (SLPA) has successfully installed eight sets of battery cages with ready-to-lay chickens for its Chicken Egg Production Project in Barangay Mabini, Cagdianao, Province of Dinagat Islands.
The project was made possible through the assistance of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga under the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP), which provided ₱600,000.00 in livelihood assistance last year to support the establishment and sustainability of the enterprise.
To ensure proper implementation, an orientation on the correct operation and management of the battery cage system was conducted by the project supplier, Mr. Jestoni Luib. Members of the association actively participated in the activity, strengthening their knowledge and skills to ensure efficient, responsible, and sustainable project operations.
Prior to the installation, and as part of preparations for the operational stage of the enterprise, the association, together with the SLP staff led by Project Development Officer (PDO) Art Jones Lopez conducted a meeting focused on SLP Business Operations Policy, resolution of undertakings, and the responsible and accountable utilization of project funds. This activity aimed to reinforce transparency, accountability, and collective responsibility among members.
At present, there are three (3) DSWD-SLP–assisted Chicken Egg Production enterprises operating in the Municipality of Cagdianao: Cabongbongan Makiangyon SLPA, Upper Laguna Farmers SLP Association, and the Northeast SLPA. These livelihood initiatives contribute to local food security and income generation and continue to benefit from community support as they grow and sustain their operations.
