The Project LAWA at BINHI partner-beneficiaries of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga in Barangay Ritaglenda, Basilisa, Province of Dinagat Islands continue to thrive as they actively participate in capacity-building trainings spearheaded by the provincial government.
This week, a training on fish processing and value-adding was conducted through the collaborative efforts of the Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO) of Basilisa and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) in the province. This initiative equipped the partner-beneficiaries with practical knowledge and skills to enhance the quality, shelf life, and market value of their fishery products.
Complementing these efforts, the province also provided the partner beneficiaries with essential fish processing materials and equipment to help sustain their activities, particularly in processing tilapia as their primary commodity.
Such LGU- and province-led interventions play a vital role in strengthening the implementation of Project LAWA at BINHI (Local Adaptation to Water Access and Breaking Insufficiency through Nutritious Harvest for the Impoverished). By empowering beneficiaries with sustainable livelihood skills, these trainings not only support the growth of their community-based projects but also contribute to improved food security, increased income opportunities, and long-term resilience.
Through continuous collaboration and capacity development, the partner beneficiaries are better positioned to transform their local resources into viable economic opportunities, paving the way for a more self-reliant and food-secure community, an outcome that the Agency ultimately envisions.
