Established on October 31, 2024, the Binucayan CAA Sustainable Livelihood Program Association (SLPA) stands as a strong example of how community defenders can also become catalysts of economic progress. Composed mostly of CAFGU personnel actively serving in military operations, the association has successfully transformed discipline, teamwork, and commitment into a sustainable livelihood initiative.

Through the support of the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga, the association received a Php510,000.00 grant, which was utilized to establish a Consumer Goods Store in Barangay Binucayan, Loreto, Agusan del Sur.

The community-managed store now serves as a reliable source of affordable basic commodities for residents while generating income for its members. Guided by shared responsibility, the members actively manage daily operations, applying the same dedication and cooperation they demonstrate in their service to the community.

Beyond retail operations, the association also ventured into micro-lending services. This initiative provides accessible financial assistance not only to members but also to the surrounding community.

One member proudly shared:

“Dili lang mi tigpanalipod sa seguridad, apan karon, nakahatag na pud mi og paglaum ug suporta sa among pamilya pinaagi sa panginabuhian. (We are not only protectors of peace and security, but now we are also able to provide hope and support to our families through livelihood.)”

Built on the values of transparency, discipline, and unity, the Binucayan CAA SLPA continues to grow despite challenges. More than a livelihood project, it is a symbol of resilience and empowerment promoting financial inclusion, reducing poverty, and strengthening the community it proudly serves.
