The Butuan United Sustainable Livelihood Program Association (BUSLPA) officially launched the Night Market located along Narra Road, Barangay Limaha in the city. This followed the successful project turnover by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga through the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP), which provided essential equipment to support the regular evening operations of the Night Market. The turnover ceremony was led by Regional Director Mari-Flor Dollaga, together with the local government of Butuan City headed by Mayor Lawrence Lemuel Fortun. The project was formally handed over to BUSLPA, composed of 30 stall vendors from the city.
During her opening message, RD Flo challenged BUSLPA to continuously develop and strengthen their project to qualify for additional grants from the agency. She also highlighted Butuan City as a potential model and inspiration for other municipalities and cities in the Caraga Region.
“To all members of the association, the DSWD challenges you to complete all our requirements within your first year. You must ensure the growth of your enterprise so you can receive an additional Php300,000.00. In the following years, if your business continues to grow, more grants will be provided up to the third year. Take this opportunity seriously, this is a blessing that should not be neglected,” RD Flo emphasized.
Meanwhile, Mayor Fortun announced the city government’s plan to establish a Micro Small Entrepreneurs Academy aimed at supporting food vendors in improving their businesses.
“We join RD Flo in her objective that your enterprise must truly grow. To ensure this, support should not only come from DSWD but also from the City Government. I have good news, we will establish a Micro Small Entrepreneurs Academy at no cost on your part. You will be trained in financial literacy, innovation, and product marketing. We want you to be fully prepared before you operate your businesses,” the Mayor shared.
BUSLPA President Ronnie Mondejar also expressed gratitude for the full support provided by the local government unit and DSWD to the food vendors. He likewise assured that the association will nurture and grow the opportunity given to them.
Following the turnover, a Zumba activity was also held, led by Wowie de Guzman, joined by various dance groups.
BUSLPA received a total of Php900,000.00, which was used to purchase tents, a generator set, an inflatable playground, food stalls, and other equipment necessary for the Night Market operations.
