The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program formally starts its 20-day Tutoring and Nanay-Tatay Teacher Sessions in the municipalities of Del Carmen, Dapa, and General Luna in Surigao del Norte on May 8, 2026, and in Butuan City, Agusan del Norte on May 9, 2026.

A total of 355 Tutors and 313 Youth Development Workers (YDWs) will facilitate daily learning sessions for 1,775 incoming Grade 2 learners, in partnership with their parents and guardians.

The program seeks to develop children’s reading skills at an early age while strengthening the role of parents as active partners in their children’s learning at home. Through the Nanay-Tatay Teacher Sessions, parents and guardians are provided with guidance and practical knowledge to help them better support the educational needs of their children.

Furthermore, the program also serves as an opportunity for college students to work as Tutors and YDWs under the Cash-for-Work (CFW) scheme, contributing to their school expenses while gaining valuable work experience.

The Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program continues to promote a more inclusive and effective community-based learning environment through the shared commitment of communities, parents, youth, and partner agencies.
