Though both entries come from the same province, each was recognized for a distinct and impactful approach to strengthening food security and addressing hunger at the community level.

The Walang Gutom Awards was conducted on May 11–12, 2026 at Makati Palace Hotel in Makati City, where Local Government Units (LGUs) from across the country presented innovative and community-driven programs promoting sustainable food systems and nutrition security. The deliberations were joined by USEC Edu Punay and Atty. Baldr H. Bringas, together with other members of the selection committee.

The Municipality of Del Carmen earned recognition through its flagship program FARM TO SPOON — Fishery and Agriculture Resiliency Management Through Outstanding Sustainable Policies and Participatory Oversight and Ownership. The initiative highlights the municipality’s strong focus on sustainable agriculture, resilient fisheries, participatory governance, and community ownership in building a reliable and inclusive local food system.

Meanwhile, Barangay Cabawa in Dapa stood out for its initiative “From Gambling to Greenery: Gulayan sa Barangay Project,” which mobilizes residents to engage in backyard and community gardening, transforming idle spaces into productive sources of fresh and nutritious food while promoting positive community participation.

These recognitions demonstrate how local initiatives — both at the municipal and barangay levels — contribute meaningfully to the national effort against hunger while promoting resilient and sustainable communities.
