The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga, through its Supplementary Feeding Program (SFP), has started its first batch of distribution and inspection of hot meal supplies to various municipalities across the region as the new school year officially begins.

The activity forms part of the agency’s efforts to ensure the timely delivery of nutritious meals to eligible children enrolled in Child Development Centers (CDCs) and Supervised Neighborhood Play (SNP) across Caraga.

For this year’s implementation, the program targets 73 Local Government Units (LGUs) and aims to serve 72,881 children throughout the region. The feeding activity will be conducted for 180 feeding days, with a total budget allocation of Php 327,964,500.00, equivalent to Php 25.00 per child per day.

DSWD personnel conducted inventory checks in coordination with the LGUs to facilitate the efficient distribution of food supplies needed for the program and ensure that the delivered items meet the required quantity and quality standards.

“This distribution helps in organizing and having a more efficient record, as well as ensuring that all are provided with smooth delivery of services,” said Rosario Tablon, SFP focal person in Nasipit, Agusan del Norte.

The program is one of the agency’s key interventions to improve the nutritional status of children and support their healthy growth and development.

“This program provides additional nourishment, especially for children from disadvantaged households. It serves as a valuable support in school, helping them stay well-nourished, improve their learning, and maintain their energy during classes and school activities,” Tablon added.

Through the provision of nutritious meals, the program seeks to address malnutrition and promote better health outcomes among young learners while supporting their overall development and school participation.

DSWD Caraga reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the smooth implementation of the feeding program, emphasizing the importance of collaboration with stakeholders in delivering quality services to children and their families in the region.
