Madrid and Cantilan, Surigao del Sur formally begun the 20-day tutoring sessions of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga’s Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program on June 1, 2026.

The simultaneous implementation marked the official deployment of Tutors and Youth Development Workers (YDWs) in participating communities, where Tutors will conduct reading enhancement sessions for learners while YDWs will facilitate Nanay-Tatay Teacher Sessions for parents and guardians of learner-beneficiaries.

Simultaneous to the launching, Tara, Basa Caraga Regional Program Management Office distributed learning kits, workbooks, and other instructional materials to Madrid Central Elementary School essential throughout the conduct of the sessions.

In his message of support, Madrid Mayor Juan Paolo Lopez emphasized the importance of investing in children’s education and future.

“If we will teach them (students) at an early stage, if they will learn and grow up to become wise men and women, they will have better choices. And with better choices comes better life,” Mayor Lopez stated.

“That is why we want to invest in these children, and to you parents, kay gusto namo ang mga bata, mga ginikanan, the next generation of Madrid, will want better. Yun po ang mapapana namin sa inyo,” he added.

The 20-day tutoring and parenting sessions will run from June 1–23, 2026 in both municipalities under the continued implementation of program.
