Caraga- The Conflict-Sensitive Resource and Asset Management (COSERAM) of the German Development Service (DED), now GIZ, will partner with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Caraga in the implementation of the Peace for Economic Advancement and Community Empowerment (PEACE) for Veruela project.
“This partnership engagement for peace and development in this conflict-affected town will be formalized through a ceremonial Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing and project launching on August 12, 2014 in Veruela, Agusan del Sur,” said Regional Director Minda B. Brigoli of DSWD-XIII.
“As stipulated in the MOA, the PEACE for Veruela project will run from July 15, 2014 to December 31, 2014,” Brigoli disclosed.
She added that the activity will be graced by GIZ-COSERAM representative Dr. Stephanie Schell Faucon and party, District II Congresswoman Evelyn P. Mellana, Governor Edward Adolph G. Plaza, Mayor Salimar T. Mondejar, other local government unit (LGU) officials, and some DSWD representatives.
According to Brigoli, the LGU of the said town is very much excited for the said undertaking because it is expected to cover up to six (6) barangays and will benefit up to 11,382 individuals with 2, 178 households.
Brigoli also noted that the main objective of the project is to strengthen the capacities of the communities and DSWD staff on different levels in peace building and peace education, for better access to community livelihood and opportunities.
Allotted for the said project is 5.5 million pesos from the collaborative contribution of the following: GIZ-COSERAM (Php 4 M), DSWD Caraga (Php 700,000), and LGU Veruela (Php 800,000). ###(Social Marketing Unit/DSWD Field Office Caraga)
