Filipinos exceedingly value the index of their families more than anything else. Regardless of the liberal influence, Family in the Philippines remains to be called as the basic active social institution of the society.
Tiniest of all entity as they call it, Filipino families have always been reasons for bigger changes in the civilization. Harnessed by good Filipino traits, backed-up with desirable Filipino values, Filipino Family continually creates changes and able to model sustainable required characteristic for their good and for the good of the community they belong, as well.
As this department heads the celebration of the National Family week this month of September, may we remember the innumerable code created in purposes of solidifying good family ties to bring Filipino families closer to Filipino customs, values and ideals and be able to reflect contemporary trends and conditions as stated “The Family Code of the Philippines,” promulgated by the late Philippine President, Corazon C. Aquino.
In one hand, it should be noted that several families are already established. Every family is eminent to be ready in facing trials and complexities and has already the ability to surmount drifts that may pass along marriage life.
On the other hand, there are still identified Filipino families all over Caraga and the entire nation who happened to be victims of abnegation and social criticisms. These are families who are subject to the Department’s care and attention. They are given enough time for psychological preparation and behavioral change process through the different interventions implemented by the Field Office Caraga underscoring the convergence strategy employed with the sixteen (16) other partner regional line agencies.
As we move forward, let it remain a challenge to every Caraganon family to go back to our roots and be reminded of the exemplary ties we have had in surpassing all the challenges ahead of us. Let the customary Filipino values emanate within our being. That is to include not hurting others and also standing for those who can’t position for themselves; being respectful and courteous in your interactions; volunteering time and skills in the community; being generous with what you have; being honest with others and being participative in teamwork whenever possible which the “bayanihan spirit ” as what we are world widely known for.
These qualities empower every one of us. These are assets that define us collectively despite all the recognized snags we bumped into along our journey.
Family life is not always perfect, but at least, one thing that we should note and be proud of, that we belong to a Christian nation. Indeed, it is an honor to be a Filipino.
Towards this end, allow me to greet every model family in Caraga and to its neighboring regions to live high and live the quality life to the fullest. May you have all the smiles and happiness as you once again remember the spirit of being a family strengthened by love, trust, and guidance from the Almighty.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development Caraga joins you once again in your every family endeavor.
Continue to wave the life of quality Caraga. Kudos!
