Barangay officials and community volunteers of Brgy. Sombrado, Basilisa, Province of Dinagat Islands rejoice as they inaugurated their newly- built 18 linear meter Reinforced Concrete Girder (RCDG) Bridge. The sub-project, which the residents themselves help build, was funded through Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan –Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (Kalahi-CIDSS).
Before the bridge was built, residents were forced to cross the river on foot which was perilous especially for small children. Parents and students had to wade through strong currents just to get to the school which is situated in the barangay across the river. Now, residents will be able to get across the river safely and with ease.
Kalahi-CIDSS is one of the core anti-poverty programs of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) that aims to empower communities through their enhanced participation in local governance and implementation of poverty alleviation projects. ###(APRIL MAE N.
