The Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office Caraga conducted the Learning Development Intervention on Logistics Management for the Local Disaster Risk Reduction Management Officers at Inland Hotel, Butuan City last February 11, 2020.
DSWD, as the lead agency for the Response Pillar for Disaster, ensures that the response of the Philippine government as a whole during disasters is well coordinated, follows established protocols and is clearly communicated to the public. The agency provides food and non-food assistance during the emergency response phase, and restore at least the pre-disaster level of food security in the affected areas. It also supports and enhances the Government’s capacity to ensure protection issues of Internally Displaces Person’s (IDPs).
The Disaster Response Management Division (DRMD) of DSWD believes that the management of logistics on emergency and disaster events must also be properly guided and must have a developed strategy and coordinated well with the MSWDOs and other stakeholders in the community.
The five-day training is aimed at increasing the awareness of the LDRRMOs on how disaster operations will go through in the context of DSWD’s mandate in collaboration with its partners, in relation to its counterpart intermediaries and other stakeholders. It is one way to systematize logistics management on disaster operations.
This activity was a collaboration between the Disaster Response Management Division (DRMD) and the Capability Building Section (CBS), and have covered the following topics: Disaster Response Context and Legal Framework, Humanitarian Supply Chain and Management, Humanitarian Actors, Logistics Preparedness, Logistics Assessment and Logistics Planning, Setting Up and Management of Storage Facility, Distribution, and Planning.
