DSWD continues relief efforts, send more assistance to LGUs

*On January 12, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga delivers more family food packs (FFPs) to affected local government units in the Province of Dinagat Islands.*

In its relentless strive to address the needs of those communities affected by #OdettePH, DSWD Field Office Caraga continues to strengthen its relief efforts and augmentation assistance in various areas in Surigao del Norte and Province of Dinagat Islands by providing food and non-food supplies to families affected by the super typhoon.

On January 12, FO Caraga has augmented a total of 1,138 sleeping kits to the municipalities of Mainit, Placer, Sison, Taganaan, Malimono, Bacuag, and Gigaquit in Surigao del Norte.

Meanwhile, a total of 1,043 family kits were delivered to the local government units (LGUs) of Basilisa, Cagdianao, Libjo, and Loreto in the Province of Dinagat Islands and 400 laminated sacks were distributed to the municipalities of San Jose, Cagdianao, and Dinagat.

On the other hand, DSWD Region IX has also extended its relief support by providing 4,000 family food packs (FFPs) to the field office which were then distributed to the LGUs of San Jose, Basilisa, Cagdianao, Dinagat, Libjo, and Loreto.

*Simultaneously, DSWD Field Office Caraga has also augmented additional non-food items to affected LGUs in the Surigao del Norte on the same day.*

Aside from DSWD IX, other field offices across the country have also sent food and non-food items to FO Caraga to help address the need for additional augmentation assistance of severely affected LGUs in the region, particularly in Surigao del Norte and Dinagat Islands.

The distribution of food and non-food supplies and identification of beneficiaries gleaned from augmentation requests made by the LGU and the number of affected families in the city or municipality.

On top of the provision of food and non-food items, DSWD FO Caraga has also begun the distribution of cash assistance to the victims of Typhoon Odette/Rai and provision of Psychological First Aid (PFA) to the families displaced by the typhoon. Through the provision of PFA, the DSWD aims to help the victim-survivors manage their mental health status to reduce the post-traumatic stress of the victim-survivors and guide them as they return to their normal mental functioning despite the trauma brought by the disaster.

DSWD Caraga and other field offices are in constant coordination with the different LGUs and partner agencies to augment interventions that are deemed fit and necessary to communities hit by the typhoon. (Social Marketing Section/DSWD Field Office Caraga)
