July 1, 2022 marks the kick-off of the National Disaster Resilience Month. With this, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga commenced the month-long celebration with an initial launching through the Field Office’s weekly radio program, Ikaw Ug ang DSWD: Kuyog sa Kabaguhan through Hope Radio Butuan.
Anchored on the theme “Sambayanang Pilipino, Nagkakaisa tungo sa Katatagan at Maunlad na Kinabukasan,” guests, Ms. Melanie Juan (Disaster Response Manageme nt Division – Division Chief) and Angel Bert Casimillo (Social Welfare Officer III), highlighted the significance of the celebration.
“Under Executive Order 29, signed by President Rodrigo Duterte on 2017, the National Disaster Resilience Month is to be celebrated all throughout the country, July of each year. NDRM is celebrated to promote awareness on the disaster risks and in building disaster resilience,” Mr. Casimillo, said.
Meanwhile, Ms. Juan underscored that the resilience month celebration is a reminder to the public to be vigilant in order to reduce the loss of lives and livelihood, especially during disasters.
Ms. Juan also encouraged the public to participate in the various contests as part of the celebration, namely; LGU photo contest, Quiz bowl for elementary learners, E-recycle Mo!, and, song writing competition which will conclude during the culmination of the month-long celebration on July 28, 2022.
The following are the activities for the month-long celebration;
-Radio Program and Hanging of Tarpaulin
-Post Odette Assessment for Quick Response Team
-Fire and Earthquake Drill Symposium
-Basic Life Support Training
-Tree Planting
-QUiz Bowl and E-Recycle Mo! competition
-Culmination program
Furthermore, the Department also joined with the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) along with the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (RDRRMC) in the thanksgiving mass at the OCD Caraga, earlier the day.
