Nanay Sosinta B. Formilles of General Luna (Siargao), Surigao del Norte turned 100 last September 7,
2022.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office – Caraga headed by Regional
Director Mari-Flor A. Dollaga together with the Local Government Unit (LGU) and the Municipal Social
Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) of General Luna awarded Php 100,000.00 to the first ever
Centenarian (100 years old) of General Luna (Siargao), Surigao del Norte, September 30, 2022.
Dir. Dollaga commended the efforts of the family in taking good care of the centenarian.
“Tungod sa inyong pag mahal ug pag alaga mao niabot si Nanay ug 100 years old (Because of your love
and nurture, Nanay reached 100 years old),” Dir. Dollaga said.
In an interview with Nanay Sosinta’s daughter, Daylinda, she told DSWD, “Kamo pod, inyong ginikanan,
inyo jud ampingan, serbisyohan, pakan-on sa insakto (You should take care of your parents too, serve
them, [and] feed them well).”
The Centenarian Program through Republic Act 10868 otherwise known as the Centenarians Act of 2016
entitles all Filipinos who reach 100 years old and above, whether living in the Philippines or abroad, a
letter of felicitation from the President of the Philippines and a “centenarian gift” worth Php 100,000.
