In the pursuit of providing immediate augmentation support to the Local Government Units (LGUs) in need of assistance, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga responded to the request of LGU Mainit, Surigao Del Norte of an additional relief items for their escalating number of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) due to heavy rains brought by the Shear Line weather condition.
On January 7, 2023, through the Disaster Response Management Division (DRMD), the following were successfully delivered to LGU Mainit: Kitchen Kits, Family Kits, Family Food Packs, Modular Tents, and blankets.
DSWD is continually coordinating with LGUs to address the needs of those affected by flooding and landslides.
Meanwhile, with the effect brought by the Low Pressure Area (LPA) in the province of Dinagat Islands, the municipality of Cagdianao distributed the prepositioned Family Food Packs (FFPs) of the DSWD Field Office Caraga to its LPA-affected residents.
Recipient – families are from the following barangays:
Brgy. Maatas – 10 families
Brgy. Nueva Estrella – 19 families
Brgy. Sta Rita – 12 families, and
Brgy. Laguna – 7 families, which totals to 48 affected families.
As vice-chair for the disaster-response operations, the Department swiftly coordinates and monitors the disaster-affected Local Government Units (LGUs) so as to provide immediate assistance as the need arises. Prepositioning of goods in its strategic warehouses is part of the Agency’s proactive measures in responding to any disasters like LPA and Shear line.
