As part of the recalibrated action plan of the Regional Joint Gender-based Violence and Child Protection (GBV-CP) Coordination Working Group in Caraga, its members participated the first Training Workshop on Strengthening Community-Level Child Protection in Humanitarian Setting on January 18 to 20, 2023 at Dahilayan Forest Park Resort, Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon.
The activity is organized by United Nations Children’s Funds (UNICEF) and Communities and Families Services International (CFSI) as part of its continued engagement with the working group especially in equipping its members on the relevant aspects of child protection in the context of emergencies.
The training highlighted the nature of child protection in the emergency context and the significance of understanding the communities’ perspectives on child protection in order to ensure that related interventions and programming are responsive to the very needs of the target population. It also differentiated levels of child protection key humanitarian actions whether they are community-based, community-level, and community-led.
Methods and tools to effectively strengthen community-level child protection in humanitarian setting were also elaborated to equip the participants in analyzing the context of both risk and protective factors through the lens of socio-ecological and systems perspectives.
The GBV-CP Coordination Working Group in Caraga is spearheaded by DSWD Field Office Caraga under its Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Protection Cluster and through its joint regional committees such as the Regional Inter-agency Committee Against Trafficking – Violence Against Women and their Children (RIACAT-VAWC), Regional Committee for the Welfare of Children (RCWC) thru the Regional Child Protection Working Group (RCPWG) and the Regional Inter-Agency Committee on Filipino Family (RIAC-FF).
