After gracing the highly successful FOOD STAMP pilot launching held at the Teatro Nan Dapa in Dapa, Surigao del Norte, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. proceeded to attend the Rice Assistance Distribution at the Dapa Gymnasium on September 29, 2023.
The President was accompanied by DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian, Surigao del Norte Governor, Hon. Robert Lyndon Barbers, Surigao del Norte 1st District Representative, Hon. Francisco Matugas II, Dapa Municipal Mayor Hon. Elizabeth Matugas, Special Assistant to the President Antonio Lagdameo Jr., and his son Vincent Marcos.
2,265 families considered poor according to the Listahanan 3 Database received 25 kilos of rice from the President, which was donated by the Bureau of Customs (confiscated from rice smugglers/hoarders).
During his speech, the President hoped that the rice distributed would aid poor families badly affected by the rising prices of rice and other food commodities. He said that the government is looking for ways to combat hunger and malnutrition through various programs of his administration, such as the Food STAMP.
After the distribution, the President then traveled to San Jose, Province of Dinagat Islands to attend a similar activity where 1,000 sacks (25 kilos) of rice were distributed.
Another distribution of 1,000 sacks also took place in Surigao City.
