The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian, together with the Undersecretary for Disaster Response Management Group, Usec. Diana Rose Cajipe, arrived in Tandag City, Surigao del Sur, on December 4, 2023, to meet with Surigao del Sur Governor Alexander Pimentel and the local chief executives of the province.

The visit seeks to assess the extent of damages caused by the 7.4-magnitude earthquake in Surigao del Sur, the province that was severely affected in Caraga.  During the visit Sec. Gatchalian assures aid for the quake-affected Local Government Units (LGUs) in the said province.

DSWD remains committed to working closely with the local government units to ensure that aid reaches those in need of immediate assistance.

DSWD is currently working on providing additional support services to the affected families. This effort resonates with the Agency’s commitment to stand alongside the affected families as they navigate toward recovery.
