The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga launched Project LAWA AT BINHI in Taganaan, Surigao del Norte, on June 8, 2024.
Project LAWA at BINHI, or the Local Adaptation to Water Access and Breaking Insufficiency through Nutritious Harvest for the Impoverished, aims at improving food security and water sufficiency. The DSWD Central Office’s focal person for RRP, Roderick Quisadio, SDN Vice Governor Eddie Gokiangkee Jr., and Mayor Cesar Diaz Jr joined the launching.
Meanwhile, Field Office Caraga turned over Project LAWA at BINHI to Barangay Mahayahay and Barangay Union, Lingig, Surigao del Sur, on June 7, 2024.
The Local Adaptation to Water Access and Breaking Insufficiency through Nutritious Harvest for the Impoverished or the Project LAWA at BINHI, seeks to address water scarcity and food insecurity in response to the threats posed by El Niño and La Niña.
“I hope we avoid the ningas-kugon mentality, which means only being enthusiastic at the start. You are the most important part of this project and will benefit most from its harvest. Whether we are paid or not, we will work because it sustains us. Don’t waste this opportunity; I am with you on this”, Hon. Elmer Evangelio, Lingig Mayor, on his message of encouragement during the turnover ceremony.
The 20-day implementation was a success, thanks to the strong support from the provincial governor, the mayor of Lingig, and the barangay captains.
The DSWD Caraga remains committed to its mission of uplifting communities through innovative projects and collaborative efforts, ensuring a brighter and more sustainable future for all.
