In a response to the recent Pertussis outbreak, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga, through the Social Welfare and Development (SWAD) Surigao Del Norte, extended assistance to the residents of Sitio Kapihan, Sering, Socorro, providing vital Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation.
The assistance was coordinated in conjunction with a Medical Consultation event held by the Siargao Island Medical Center on June 11, 2024, where healthcare professionals were on the ground to evaluate and treat those affected by the outbreak. This seamless integration of services ensured that immediate health concerns were addressed alongside longer-term welfare needs.
A total of 46 residents benefited from the aid, which amounted to Php112,064.60. The assistance package covered various needs, including medical, transportation, and food support, aiming to lessen the outbreak’s impact on the affected families and individuals.
Pertussis, also known as whooping cough, is a highly contagious respiratory disease known for uncontrollable, violent coughing which often makes it hard to breathe. The outbreak prompted immediate action from health and welfare departments to prevent further spread and to support those already affected.
DSWD Field Office Caraga, in collaboration with local health institutions, remains committed to monitoring the outbreak and providing necessary assistance to ensure the well-being of the community.
