10 barangays in Cantilan town, in the province of Surigao del Sur, have received sub-projects worth P5.9 million from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga.
These sub-projects, ranging from the repair and construction of community service infrastructure and the installation of solar powered street lights, and the acquisition of medical tools, equipment, and amenities, is funded through the Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan – Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS) Program. These community sub-projects are now ready to be enjoyed by the residents of its respective barangays. This follows a week-long inauguration and turnover ceremonies, held from July 15-19, led by the DSWD Field Office Caraga OIC-Assistant Regional Director for Operations Jean Paul Parajes and KALAHI-CIDSS Regional Program Coordinator Raffy Vigil.
Such sub-projects were implemented under the Additional Financing modality of the program, which aims to address needs as identified by the covered communities themselves through Community-Driven Development (CDD).
Apart from the Department’s funding, the Municipal Local Government Unit of Cantilan also extended over Php3,000,000 of cash and in-kind counterparts as well, while each barangay shared Php1,000 worth of similar counterpart.
Both the barangay and the municipal local government units expressed their gratitude to the Department for the services they have extended to their community through the KALAHI-CIDSS Program.
In his message, RPC Vigil also voiced his appreciation to the volunteers who exerted time and effort for the completion of the project and to the MLGU for their continued support of the program’s endeavors. Mayor Philip A. Pichay (The DSWD FO Caraga through the KALAHI-CIDSS program is grateful for your dedication and efforts to complete the sub-projects that were created. A big thank you to the community volunteers who have been a huge part of the implementation of program projects along with the real and solid support from the barangays and the Municipality of Cantilan also through the management of Hon. Now that your sub-projects have been completed, a big challenge for everyone, especially the operation and maintenance (O&M) groups is how to ensure that many will benefit from the use of the projects and how to ensure that all of these will last a long time and endure),” RPC Vigil added.
