To provide much-needed support while also building community resilience, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga conducted a Food-for-Work (FFW) initiative in the municipalities of Burgos and Sta. Monica, Siargao Island, Surigao del Norte, on August 21-22, 2023.

Under the program, residents participated in community improvement activities such as coastal clean-up in exchange for their efforts, participants received food assistance, ensuring both immediate relief and sustainable community development.

Imee Jane Solano, Social Welfare Officer II, led the distribution of Family Food Packs to the Food-for-Work beneficiaries.

With this, a total of 2,604 FFW beneficiaries received Family Food Packs (FFPs), 1,603 of whom are from the municipality of Burgos and 1,001 from Sta. Monica.

The FFW program is part of the Department’s efforts to enhance food security while promoting community resilience by engaging residents in meaningful work.

DSWD remains dedicated to expanding these initiatives across the Caraga region, harnessing community strength to create enduring impacts.
