On Monday, September 30, 2024, 752 Ready-To-Lay (RTL) chickens arrived in Barangay Diegas, Basilisa, Province of Dinagat Islands (PDI) for egg production, providing families with a reliable source of nutrition and additional income.

The RTL chickens are expected to significantly enhance egg production in the area, providing local families with a reliable source of nutrition and the opportunity to generate additional income by selling surplus eggs.

Egg production supports one of the primary objectives of Project LAWA at BINHI (Local Adaptation to Water Access and Breaking Insufficiency through Nutritious Harvest for the Impoverished), to address food insufficiency and economic challenges through local adaptations and innovative farming practices.

With the pressing challenges posed by climate change, economic instability, and recurring natural disasters, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga recognizes the importance of reinforcing its social welfare programs to ensure no family is left behind. By focusing on innovative, locally adapted interventions, the department continues to pave the way for a future where all communities in Caraga can thrive with food and water access security.
