In a remarkable stride towards improving community welfare and resilience, the Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan โ€“ Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI โ€“ CIDSS) Program of the Department of Social Work and Development (DSWD) Field Office CARAGA successfully completed the installation of 320 rainwater harvester to 4 barangays of Pilar, Surigao del Norte.

Rainwater harvesting systems are a vital, sustainable solution for communities that experience water shortages, particularly in rural areas where access to regular water supply is limited. KALAHI-CIDSS aims to provide a reliable, year-round source of water by capturing and storing rainwater, which can be used for various daily needs.

The sub-projects were selected based on the specific needs and priorities of the community. KALAHI-CIDSS emphasizes participatory governance, which allows communities to identify their own needs.

The project is part of the governmentโ€™s ongoing efforts to enhance quality of life, especially in underserved communities with limited access to reliable water sources.

These newly installed facilities amounting to Php12,478,249.50 are funded through the National Community-Driven Development Program – Additional Financing (NCDDP-AF) modality in partnership with Municipal Local Government (MLGU) and other stakeholders.

The turnover ceremony was attended by Municipal Inter-Agency Committee (MIAC) Members, Sangguniang Bayan (SB) Members, Barangay Local Government Unit (BLGU) officials, KALAHI-CIDSS Regional Program Management Office (RPMO) staff, and community volunteers.

KALAHI-CIDSS is a program that uses a community-driven development strategy to ensure people-centered development by providing assistance, capacity-building, and implementation support to poverty-disadvantaged and disaster-affected municipalities.
