Several livelihood associations from the province of Surigao del Norte recently acquired projects and seed capital through ceremonial turnovers conducted by the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga together with its program partners.
Some 16 SLP associations from the Municipality of Tagana-an and San Francisco received livelihood grants amounting to Php 5,275,000.00 that will fund their consumer stores and cash remittance projects, which were spearheaded by SLP Caraga Regional Program Management Office, Provincial Operations Office, local government units of the aforementioned municipalities, and the Association of Philippine Electric Cooperative. The turnover served different sectoral groups in their communities, including persons with disabilities, women, and solo parents, among other sectors.
“These initiatives are not just stores or remittance services; they are building blocks for a stronger, more self-reliant community,” said Herbert Despi, SLP Caraga provincial partnership officer for Surigao del Norte.
To further solidify their support for the program’s initiatives, Tagana-an Mayor Cesar Diaz pledged his commitment through an inspirational message.
“This funding is not just an investment in financial resources, but an investment in the potential of our community members. By empowering our women, persons with disabilities, and tricycle drivers, we are building a stronger and more resilient Tagana-an,” remarked Hon. Diaz.
SLP seeks to provide more livelihood assistance and other means of help that will benefit SLPAs in all provinces across Caraga and projects a positive impact on the economic condition of the region.
