In a pivotal step towards strengthening community resilience and ensuring public safety, the Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan โ€“ Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Service (KALAHI โ€“ CIDSS) Program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office CARAGA formally turned over four units of Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) to the Municipality of Veruela, Agusan del Sur, last December 3, 2024.

The sub-project is intended to directly benefit 8,255 families with a total cost of Php7,500,000 implemented under the Kapangyarihan at Kaunlaran sa Barangay (KKB) modality in partnership with the Municipal Local Government Unit (MLGU).
The ERVs are designed to significantly improve the community’s ability to address emergencies effectively, reach affected areas more quickly, and coordinate actions more efficiently to safeguard lives and minimize death.

The turnover ceremony was graced by Municipal Mayor Myrna Mondejar, KALAHI-CIDSS National Program Management Office (NPMO) Project Development Officer Jezon Romano, Regional Program Coordinator (RPC) Raffy Vigil, Regional Project Management Office (RPMO) staff, Area Coordinating Teams (ACTs), Municipal Local Government Unit (MLGU) officials, Barangay Local Government Unit (BLGU) officials, and community volunteers.

In his speech, PDO Romano expressed heartfelt gratitude to community volunteers who embody the true spirit of community-driven development.

โ€œTo everyone who shared their time, thank you for your hard work and dedication. Your unwavering support for community development will not be forgotten. Together we have the power to shape resilience by aligning our goals, sharing our responsibilities, and working side by side towards a more sustainable community. Through this we can create pathways towards meaning change,โ€ Romano expressed.

Moreover, Mayor Mondejar expressed gratitude to the KALAHI-CIDSS program, emphasizing the importance of the vehicles in safeguarding the welfare of her constituents.

โ€œThese emergency response vehicles serve as a powerful example of the remarkable outcomes that can be accomplished when communities and agencies join forces. They reflect the strength of collaboration, where shared resources, expertise, and commitment converge to address critical needs. By working together, stakeholders can pool their efforts to overcome challenges, enhance resilience, and create tangible solutions that benefit everyone,โ€ Mayor Mondejar remarked.

KALAHI – CIDSS is a Program of the Department of Social Work and Development (DSWD) that embraces the Community-Driven Development (CDD) approach, where people are not mere beneficiaries but stakeholders who are actively integrated into decision-making, project development, implementation, and management.
