In a remarkable demonstration of dedication and commitment, the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga recently carried out a project inspection across five island barangays in Surigao City.
The inspection covered the barangays of Manjagao, Cagutsan, Sugbay, Josenian, and Aurora, which are remote communities situated far from the mainland and accessible only through unpredictable sea routes that posed a logistical challenge.
The inspection activity primarily focuses on evaluating the technical aspects of the project. During this process, the Local Technical Working Group (LTWG) provides valuable feedback, comments, and recommendations aimed at enhancing the project’s overall quality and efficiency.
“We can’t thank SLP enough for their genuine dedication and tireless efforts in visiting us to check on our project. Being on an island far from the mainland, we know how difficult it is to reach us, yet they still made the journey to ensure that our livelihood project is on the right track,” Cagutsan SLP Association Vice President Victoria Libres said in a statement.
Moreover, various personnel from different offices of the partner local government unit (LGU) of Surigao City also actively participated in the said inspection, contributing their expertise and insights to strengthen the operations of the livelihood projects.
Among the participating officers were Jonathan Escudero from the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), Dinesio Picabte of City Engineering Office, Adelfa Igongigong from the City Agriculture Office, Azzy Amper from City Sanitary Office, and Raul Benitez from the City Veterinary Office.
Each officer provided valuable recommendations and technical guidance, addressing key aspects such as project sustainability, structural integrity, agricultural productivity, sanitation standards, and animal health management. Their collaborative efforts ensured a more holistic evaluation, paving the way for improved project outcomes and long-term success.
As the program continues to expand its reach, the diligence and selflessness of its personnel stands as a beacon of hope, demonstrating that no community is too remote and no challenge is too daunting when it comes to empowering people and creating opportunities for a brighter, more sustainable future. Their tireless efforts ensure that even the most isolated communities are not left behind, providing them an avenue for more inclusive growth and lasting positive change.
