Butuan City, Caraga – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga recently held a meaningful celebration dedicated to its solo parent staff, focusing on empowerment through knowledge, well-being, and community building, April 25, 2025.

Representatives from PhilHealth, the National Housing Authority (NHA) XIII, the Department of Health (DOH) Center for Health Development Caraga, and TESDA Caraga were present to shed light on the benefits and programs available to solo parents under Republic Act 11861, also known as the Expanded Solo Parents Welfare Act of 2022.
Participants actively engaged with the speakers, gaining valuable insights into healthcare coverage, housing assistance, health and wellness programs, and skills development opportunities now accessible through the strengthened legislation. The discussions aimed to ensure that solo parents within the DSWD Caraga workforce are well-informed about their rights and the support systems available to them.
Recognizing the unique challenges faced by solo parents, the celebration also incorporated a vital mental health session. This component underscored the DSWD’s commitment to the holistic well-being of its employees, providing a space for learning coping mechanisms and fostering a supportive environment.
Adding another layer of empowerment and camaraderie, the event culminated in the election of officers for the newly formed Association of DSWD Caraga Solo Parents. This association will serve as a platform for mutual support, advocacy, and collective action among solo parent staff within the field office. The elected officers will play a vital role in ensuring that the voices and needs of solo parents are heard and addressed within the DSWD Caraga community.
This Solo Parents Day celebration reflects DSWD Field Office Caraga’s dedication not only to implementing social welfare programs for the broader community but also to nurturing and empowering its workforce—particularly those navigating the responsibilities of single parenthood. By providing access to crucial information, prioritizing mental well-being, and fostering a sense of community, DSWD Caraga is truly living up to its mission of social protection and empowerment, beginning from within its own ranks.
A meaningful Solo Parent Week to each and every solo parent. Your strength and courage inspire us all.
