In celebration of a milestone journey of the Sama Bajau community, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga participated in the culmination activity titled “Sa Huy-anan, Sa Kalambuan: A Culmination of the Sama Bajau Transformative Journey,” on June 20, 2025, at Ecovillage, Sitio Panubigon, Barangay Lipata, Surigao City.
Together with key national and local government agencies, DSWD Caraga witnessed the ceremonial opening of the Community Learning and Youth Transformation Center – a cornerstone initiative that embodies hope and opportunity for the Sama-Bajau Youth.
The center was established to address the urgent need for literacy development and empowerment programs among children and young people in marginalized sectors. More than just a learning hub, it is envisioned as a safe and inclusive space—especially for girls—where the youth can openly engage in crucial conversations about reproductive health, life skills, leadership, and personal development.
DSWD Caraga Assistant Regional Director for Operations Jean Paul Parajes delivered a heartfelt message of support during the event. He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to empowering vulnerable communities, emphasizing the importance of sustained collaboration.
This initiative forms part of the DSWD’s broader commitment to transformative and community-based programs, anchored on the principles of “Walang Iwanan” and “Bawat Pamilya ay Mahalaga.”
