CARAGA – In preparation for the upcoming 3rd National Community Volunteers’ Congress on August 13-15, 2019, the Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan – Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (Kalahi-CIDSS) Caraga conducted an ocular visit in different municipalities in Agusan del Norte and Surigao del Sur implementing the Kalahi-CIDSS Program on July 11 to 12, 2019.
The ocular visit, initiated by the National Program Management Office (NPMO) and the Regional Program Management Office (RPMO) headed by Deputy Regional Program Manager Ester Villamor, aimed to identify barangays and sub-projects to be visited during the exposure visit of the participants, consisting of LGU officials and community volunteers from the various regions in the country, on August 14.
Selection of areas for the one-day field exposure visit was based on the LGU’s support to the program, the successful implementation of the Kalahi-CIDSS and its sub-projects, and the active participation of the Barangay Local Government Units (BLGU) and community volunteers. The RPMO identified four municipalities, namely Carmen, Agusan del Norte, San Agustin, Barobo, and Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur given their outstanding support and exemplary implementation of the program in the last years up to present.
During the Kalahi-CIDSS staff’s courtesy call with Municipal Mayor Joey S. Pama of Barobo, he expressed his utmost support for the program and willingness to be one of the hosting municipalities for the field visit. “Of all the programs and projects provided by the government, Kalahi-CIDSS is the most effective because it begins in the grassroots,” Mayor Pama said.
Together with the ACT, RPMO, and NPMO, the MLGU agreed that a follow-up visit should be conducted prior to the actual field exposure visit to assist the MLGU in all the necessary preparations.
The 3rd National Community Volunteers’ Congress is an annual nationwide gathering of remarkable community-stakeholder-leaders to share their experiences, learn from each other, help form solutions in other municipalities, and boost the practice of community-driven development in the country.
